The rums are made from molasses, distilled in column stills and aged in the tropical Dominican climate, which speeds up maturation and pushes soft, sweet flavors forward.

The range starts with the Añejo, widely treated as a mixer that burns a little neat, then steps up through Gran Añejo and the flagship Imperial, which most reviewers regard as the sweet spot. Above that sit the Imperial Onyx, the Gran Añejo Dark Series, the cask-finished Rare Blends in Porto, Maple, and Mizunara oak, plus the Organic bottling (distilled from cane juice, no added sugar) and the premium 30-year and 40 Aniversario editions.

Bottling strength is usually 38%, so the alcohol integration is gentle but the body can feel thin.

Most people drink Barceló neat with a little time to breathe, over ice, or in a rum and coke with lime. The lighter expressions make dependable everyday mixers; the Imperial, Dark Series, and anniversary releases work better as relaxed after-dinner sippers alongside dessert.
