Companero is a bottler that assembles rum from established Caribbean and Central American sources, chiefly Panama and Jamaica, then blends and finishes them for the German market. The name shows up regularly in advent calendars and tasting sets, which is how a lot of drinkers first meet it.

Production leans on sourced stock rather than an owned distillery. The Panama component brings soft caramel and vanilla, while Jamaican pot-still rum adds a touch of funk to blends like the Ron Gran Reserva. Sweetening is part of the house signature on much of the range, which is why sugar content comes up so often in reviews.

The lineup runs from the chocolate-heavy Ron Panama Extra Anejo and the wood-forward Vintage single years (1998, 2002, 2005, 2008) to the flavored Elixir Orange, Elixir Extra and a Coconut Liqueur. The Vintage bottlings are the driest, showing wood, dried fruit, light roast and cherry with only gentle sweetness. The Elixir and Coconut releases sit firmly in dessert-drink territory, with orange, coconut and vanilla dominating.

On the palate the flagship tastes like chocolate-orange hot chocolate: milk chocolate, brown sugar, hazelnut and a warming 54% finish. The Elixir Extra pushes cocoa and coffee syrup; the Coconut Liqueur is soft, floral and syrupy.

People drink these as after-dinner pours, alongside espresso or as an espresso Martini base.
