1423 is a Danish company that wears two hats. Under Companero, Patridom and Ron Esclavo, it makes softer, sweeter, Spanish-style blends aimed squarely at newer drinkers — the Panama Extra Añejo is chocolate and cocoa in a glass, the sort of thing people pour alongside espresso. Under S.B.S (Single Barrel Selection) it does something else entirely: single cask, cask strength bottlings from named distilleries like New Yarmouth, Skeldon and Enmore, with age, marque and ABV printed on the label.

The community tends to split along that same line. Reviewers who want transparency and funk gravitate to S.B.S, where New Yarmouth 1994 and Guyana Skeldon regularly score in the high 8s. The blends land lower and draw the recurring “too sweet” note — honest to say, and worth knowing before you buy.
